111Drtaraastra Uvaacha:

 

dharma-k'shetre kuru-k'shetre

sama-vetaa yuyutsa-vaha

maamakaah paandavaas-chaiva

kima-kurvata sanjaya

 

धर्मक्षेत्रे कुरुक्षेत्रे

समवेता युयुत्सवः।

मामकाः पाण्डवाश्चैव

किमकुर्वत सञ्जय।।1.1।।

Dhirta-raastra said:O Sanjay,

assembled on the sacred field of Kurukshetra,

[eager to fight] what did my sons and

the sons of Pandu do?

drishtvaa-tu paandavaa-nikam

vyoodham duryo-dhanas-tadaa

aachaarya mupa-sangam-ya

raajaa vachana-mabra-veet

 

दृष्ट्वा तु पाण्डवानीकं

व्यूढं दुर्योधनस्तदा।

आचार्यमुपसङ्गम्य राजा

वचनमब्रवीत्।।1.2।।

Sanjay said:At that time Prince Duryudhan,

[having seen the army arrayed in battle]

approached his Aachaarya and spoke

these words.

pashyaii-taam paandu putraa-naam

aachaarya mahateem chamoom

vyoodhaam drupada-putrena

tava shishyena dheema-taa

 

पश्यैतां पाण्डुपुत्राणामाचार्य

महतीं चमूम्।

व्यूढां द्रुपदपुत्रेण तव

शिष्येण धीमता।।1.3।।

Behold Master, the mighty army of the

sons of Pandu arrayed for battle by the

son of your talented pupil, Drupad.

atra shooraa mahesh-vaasaa

bheemaa-rjun samaa-yudhi

yuyu-dhaano viraatash-cha

drupadash-cha mahaaratha-ha

 


अत्र शूरा महेष्वासा

भीमार्जुनसमा युधि।

युयुधानो विराटश्च

द्रुपदश्च महारथः।।1.4।।

 


Here, in their army, are heros wielding

mighty bows, and, as brave in battle as

Bhim and Arjun, such as Yuyu-dhan

and the Mahaarathi Drupad.

drishta-ketush chekitaa-naha

kaashi-raajash cha veerya-vaan

puroojit-kunti bhojash-cha

shaiibyash-cha narapun-gavaha

 


धृष्टकेतुश्चेकितानः

काशिराजश्च वीर्यवान्।

पुरुजित्कुन्तिभोजश्च

शैब्यश्च नरपुङ्गवः।।1.5।।


Dhrsta-ketu, Cheki-taana and the

valiant King of Kaashi, also Purojit,

Kunti-bhoj and, the best of men -

Shaibya.

yudhaa manyush-cha vikraanta

utta-maujaas-cha veerya vaan

saubhadro draupade-yaas-cha

sarva eva mahaa-rathaa-ha


युधामन्युश्च विक्रान्त

उत्तमौजाश्च वीर्यवान्।

सौभद्रो द्रौपदेयाश्च सर्व

एव महारथाः।।1.6।।

And mighty Yudhaa-manyu and

valiant Utta-maujaa, the son of Draupadi -

all of them Mahaarathis

[great chariot warriors]

asmaakam-tu vishisthaa-ye

taani-bodha dvijo-tama

naayakaa-mama sai-nyasya

samgyaar-tham taan-braveemi-te


अस्माकं तु विशिष्टा ये

तान्निबोध द्विजोत्तम।

नायका मम सैन्यस्य

संज्ञार्थं तान्ब्रवीमि ते।।1.7।।


O best of Brahmans [Aachaarya],

know them also who are the distinguished

warriors on our side, the commanders of

my army, [whom I mention]

for your information.
